Prelude No. 2 by George Gershwin, redesigned for pianists with smaller hands as a Small-Hand Edition.
This is not a simplified or beginner arrangement. The goal is to preserve the original musical character, texture, and difficulty while redesigning selected physical hand-size barriers.
In the first edition, 33 bars ask one hand to strike a ninth or wider at once (14–16 semitones), above all the left hand's tenth on the first beat of the ostinato, which returns in 20 bars. The ostinato keeps its shape: the bass on the beat, the tenor line above it. The musical character and texture are preserved while selected hand-size barriers — the stretches beyond a comfortable octave — are redesigned.
- Maximum required simultaneous reach: one octave or less
- Notes passed to the other hand: 15 places
- Rolled left-hand chords (bass first): 32 places
- Editorial (bracketed) pedal: 10 places
- Every change is marked in the score
Included: PDF + MusicXML
Requires a comfortable octave in the right hand.
Designed for pianists who can handle the musical and technical demands of the original work, but are limited by selected stretches beyond a comfortable octave.
