Hey music fans! Enter my newly finished original programmatic composition featuring violin and piano! I composed it in more of a contemporary style as background music for a short film I hope to make soon! Please give it a listen and be sure to like / comment. Your thoughts?
Bio: "Time Will Tell"
The piece tells the story of a aging man trying to remember his past, both the good and bad times as represented by the frequent modulations between F Major and d minor. The piece introduces both themes in the Major and minor keys repeated throughout with variations as they are developed, but concludes in the Major key once again. The ending is characterized by alternating phrases shared by both piano and violin, representative of the man and his lover, sharing thoughts, sharing lives. Upon reminiscence, the man finally comes to terms with death as he embraces the happy and sad moments of a fulfilled journey.
Part I: Intro and Development
The piece begins in a theme of F with an interesting jazz-like harmony using 7th chords in the baseline. Following the introduction is a period of development where the violin captures a singing melody. The accidentals preserve the "jazzy" and playful attitude explored in the beginning. The theme then returns with sleight variations before bridging into a second melody in the violin. The piece then takes a turn into an melody in d minor for the first time followed by a variation of the F Major violin melody.
Part II: Musical Exploration and Conclusion
The d minor overlord returns again, casting a spell covering the next 30 measures with fog. This time, the piano and violin swap roles from the minor melody before the violin introduces a new melody in d. A high scale climb is followed with the return to the intro theme on solo piano with alternations between d and F following (but with more SPICE and complexity). The ending uniquely uses syncopated rhythm in both parts producing both rhythmic and harmonic complexity before the final notes: violin and piano at opposite ends of the register (ahhh satisfying).
