You turn your head and behold what seems like a scene in a dream.

Her hair, dancing in the wind...

Her sparkling eyes shooting a glance at you from across the street.

VROOOM!!! A car passes.

The moment goes uninterruputed.

Her fingers gently tucking loose strands behind her ear in one clean, swift motion.

Her mouth, barely open, as if preparing to say something...

Two hearts beating as one.

Faster.

FASTER!

I knew she was the one.

She knew I was the one.

So I rushed across ...HONK!...HONK! the street ...Beep!

Took her hand in mine, and we ran! We ran as fast as the wind. The wind, blowing in our faces, wooshing and whirling, like the thoughts in my mind.

"Wait!...We go to the same school?!"

"Do you maybe wanna walk to class together?"

She blushes and let's out a cute giggle. "I'd be happy to!"

I try with no avail to hide my reddening cheeks as I burst into laughter with her, overwhelmed by happiness, embarrassment, relief, LOVE.

It's a great feeling of fullfillment and everything around you just seems to sparkle with happiness. Eager to see her, you feel like there's a reason to get up in the morning; all the drab things and worries in your life just seem to melt away in the fierce heat of love.

To see her smile again, beaming down upon you...

To feel the softness of her hand in yours, locked in a gentle grip...

Her hair, dancing in the wind...

Her heart, beating in tune with yours...

Thus were the days of frivolous youth.

Alas, the greatest feeling in the world is as ephemeral as a mayfly's lifespan.

And one day, she graduated.

"You're...you're moving?"

"Yeah, I got my dream job at Google! Aren't you happy for me?"

I tried to utter words. None came out. Instead, I managed to nod my head and force a weak smile, holding back tears.

I clutched her hand in mine. "Will I ever see you again?" tears streaming down my face.

The whole world became blurry. I didn't know what was going on anymore. I couldn't tell whether my face was wet with tears or the rain that was somehow spontaneouly pouring with no end.

All I could do at the moment was hold on to her hand, remembering when we first held hands. I was holding on. Holding on to the one thing I knew I couldn't lose. No. Not after all the time we spent together. The memories of our good times flashed through my head at lightspeed, a broken projector zipping through the months, years in milliseconds.

"I could visit you...and..and you could visit me from time to time. We could call each other?"

"Yeah that'd be nice, " she said nonchalantly, as she loaded the last box onto the truck.

CLICK! It was time, the moment I dreaded. My heart sank and my knees collpased in sync, as if giving in to my depression.

We kissed one last time, and I waved goodbye. It was the hardest thing I had to do my entire life. Screw all those ochem finals, projects, and speeches I had to give in front of large audiences! I felt like I had just overcome the greatest difficulty in the known universe: saying goodbye.

And there she went, with all of her belongings along with my heart, chasing her dreams and moving on with life. She didn't even look back. The roof of the truck disappeared beneath the crest of the hill, and in it's place, a dwindling sunset.

I waved and waved long after she was gone. My arm was getting tired, but it had a mind of its own. Slowly, I picked myself back up, and began my journey home in the other direction. I had better move on too...

I texted her. Called her.

No response.

But I kept trying, day after day after day. She's still as bright as day in my mind.

One day, I had this gut feeling and flew up to San Fran.

I knew it was hopeless, I would never find her. She's gone, really gone.

In reality, it was just my way of coping: believing that somehow she would still be there, waiting for me after all these years, faithful as ever. Has it really been that long since we last saw each other?

I walked around town, down to the pier and then back up. The sun had begun to set.

And just when I thought of giving up, there she was, on the other side of the street, just like the fated day we first.
