Background
Composed in 1963 by the legendary American composer Henry Mancini, The Pink Panther Theme was written for Blake Edwards’s film The Pink Panther. The theme, originally played by a tenor saxophone, immediately became iconic for its mysterious, jazzy, and humorous character.
It has since become the musical signature of the entire Pink Panther series—appearing in films, TV shows, and cartoons.
Musical Style
A blend of cool jazz and comedic suspense music.
Typical rhythmic patterns include swing and shuffle, with a laid-back groove.
Harmonies feature E minor tonality, frequent 7th and chromatic chords (E♭7, F7, A♭7), and colorful alterations.
The melody is rich in chromatic motion, glissandi, grace notes, and sustained tones, producing a sly, sneaky atmosphere—just like the Pink Panther himself.
