Beethoven – Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor "Pathétique", Op. 13: II. Adagio cantabile

PLAYABLE PIANO Faithful Edition – free sheet music.

Same melody. Same key. A lighter texture.

The famous Adagio cantabile, lightened so an intermediate pianist can play it from the page.

- Melody kept in the same pitch and place: 214 of 214 core melody notes, 78 of 78 expressive variations, 19 of 19 ornament notes

- Bass note and harmony of every beat kept (146 of 146 beats)

- The inner accompaniment is shared between the hands or thinned: 263 notes left out, none added – every change is listed in CHANGES.txt

- No stretch wider than one octave in either hand; at most 3 notes struck at once by one hand

- The left hand has no more large leaps (8 semitones or more) than the original (54 → 51)

- Pedal and fingering are editorial and marked as such (the first edition prints no pedal)

Difficulty: Intermediate

Text: follows the first edition (Vienna: Hoffmeister, 1799), collated bar by bar with a modern public-domain edition
