“Beautiful That Way Sheet Music”

Notice that there are two files, not one.

The track is written with two modulations from key to key to create harmonic ambiguity and secondary colors.

There are a lot of double sharps 𝄪 and double flats 𝄫.

“Beautiful That Way” is composed with a straight rhythm in compound time 6/8. Accent strong beats 1 and 4.

In the DUO file avoid learning both hands together in the very beginning; you will fail immediately and abandon the score.

The left-hand provides only harmony. Notice that the middle part uses tremolo.

The right hand maintains movement with the riff. In the middle part play softly because the violin play here in the track.

Miley Cyrus' predominant articulation is legato. Clearly separate each phrase to highlight legato singing even more.

There very little pitch inflections (slurred notes) but notice them anyway (although you can omit singing it this way if you prefer it this way). In the beginning of phrases where Miley breathes in, the pitch sounds robotic (listen closely), I guess the producer pitch corrected it for a more clear result. Don't worry if you can't sing that clear.

The melody is build to surprise, to attract attention with a rapid flow with sudden changes of direction, expressive pauses, a recitative style.

The false ending of the bridge releases tension so the repeated chorus doesn't sound dull after the louder and intense part.

Notice ritardando and fermata (𝄐) in the intro.

Despite its genius harmonization, much of the song’s aesthetic value is generated through the call-and-response melody.
