這首曲子以壯麗的玉山為主題，描繪了登山者因被玉山的宏偉氣勢所吸引，決心攀登至高處眺望台灣全景的心路歷程。作品融入了台灣原住民的音樂元素，透過豐富的音樂語言來體現自然之美及登山者的挑戰歷程。 曲子由法國號奏出宏亮的號角聲揭開序幕，象徵玉山的雄偉和莊嚴。接著木管模仿鳥鳴，營造出自然生態的生動氣息。這一段描寫登山者從山腳望向巍峨的玉山，被其氣勢所震撼，內心激起無比的澎湃，萌生了決心登頂的想法。 進入登山的過程，音樂轉為稍慢的進行曲風，描繪登山者艱辛攀登的場景。律動稍沉穩，反映出步伐的沉重與挑戰。這段音樂表達了登山過程中遇到的體力和心理上的雙重考驗。 接著轉為慢板，以3/4拍進行，音色較為柔和、神秘，呈現出山中森林的幽靜與神秘氛圍。玉山是布農族的聖山，這一段巧妙地融入了布農族的拍手歌，彷彿遠方傳來族人們的歌聲，增添了神聖感及對自然的敬畏。 再來音樂逐漸進入詭譎的情境，減七和弦帶出危險將至的氣氛。隨後進入激烈的段落，登山者越爬越高，隨之而來的是更加險惡的環境，如暴風雨、落石等。此段以7/8、6/8、5/8等多種複雜拍子交錯運用，強化了危險和緊張的情感。最終，登山者奮力衝頂，這段以大調和弦的爆發性音響作為壓軸，象徵著勝利與成功。 最終段描寫登頂後，登山者站在玉山之巔，俯瞰整個台灣的壯麗美景。音樂再度回應第一段的法國號號角聲，不過這次使用反向呈現，象徵從山頂向下俯瞰與從山腳仰望的不同視角，並營造出圓滿的結尾。 這首曲子透過多段式的敘事結構，成功呈現了從仰望、攀登到最終登頂的完整心路歷程，以及對玉山與台灣自然之美的敬仰。

This piece takes the majestic Yushan as its theme, depicting the journey of a climber who is inspired by its grandeur and resolves to ascend to its peak to take in the panoramic view of Taiwan. The composition incorporates elements of Taiwan’s indigenous music, using rich musical language to illustrate the beauty of nature and the challenges faced by the climber. The music begins with a bright horn fanfare, symbolizing the grandeur and solemnity of Yushan. This is followed by woodwinds mimicking birdsong, creating a vivid soundscape of the mountain’s ecosystem. This section portrays the climber gazing up at the towering Yushan, deeply moved by its presence, and thus deciding to embark on the journey to its summit. As the ascent begins, the music transitions into a slower march-like rhythm, depicting the arduous climb. The steady pulse reflects the weight of each step and the struggles encountered along the way. This section expresses both the physical and psychological challenges of the climb. Next, the piece shifts to a slow 3/4 time section with a softer, more mysterious tone, evoking the tranquil and enigmatic atmosphere of the forest on Yushan. As Yushan is a sacred mountain to the Bunun people, this passage subtly incorporates the Bunun clapping song, creating the feeling of distant tribal singing, adding a sacred and reverent quality to the music. The mood then darkens as the music builds tension with diminished seventh chords, signaling imminent danger. This is followed by a more intense passage, illustrating the increasingly perilous conditions as the climber ascends higher—battling storms, landslides, and treacherous terrain. By interweaving irregular meters such as 7/8, 6/8, and 5/8, this section heightens the sense of danger and urgency. Finally, the climber makes a desperate push to the summit, culminating in a triumphant major chord, symbolizing victory and achievement. In the final section, the climber reaches the peak of Yushan and gazes upon the breathtaking beauty of Taiwan. The music revisits the opening horn fanfare, but this time in reverse motion, symbolizing the contrast between looking up from below and looking down from above. This creates a sense of closure and completion. Through its multi-sectional narrative structure, this piece vividly portrays the climber’s emotional and physical journey—from admiration and determination to struggle and triumph—while paying homage to the awe-inspiring beauty of Yushan and Taiwan’s natural landscape.
