Ticklin' Toes / Florence B. Price
About the composer
Florence B. Price (1887–1953) was an American composer and pianist. She wrote many works that combined classical music with rhythmic and melodic features of African American music, as well as many bright, rhythmic piano miniatures.
Performance tips
Bring out the light, lively feeling suggested by the title “Ticklin' Toes,” as if your toes were tingling and moving lightly.
For the fast figures, avoid pressing heavily and use the wrist and fingers lightly. Clearly distinguish staccatos from accents, and play the syncopated rhythms lightly to bring the piece to life.
Keep the left hand from becoming too strong, support it lightly, and maintain a steady tempo throughout.
Recommended for students in the lower elementary grades and above, or those around the midpoint of Czerny 100 and above; also recommended for recitals and competitions.
This is a four-page C-major solo piano score.
