This is an emotional piano solo arrangement of the jazz standard, "Autumn Leaves."
Flexibility in tempo is crucial for this piece. If you try to play the exact note values mechanically as written on the sheet music, the music may lose its natural flow and sound stiff.
As the 'Rubato' marking at the beginning suggests, the key is to play freely, finding a tempo that naturally breathes with the flow of the song.
