Heal The World - beatbox flute quintet and piano-マイケル・ジャクソン

Beatbox Flute Quintet & Piano · Arranged by Yu-Tai Cheng

From Michael Jackson's album Dangerous (1991)

A song about caring for the world and for the children who will inherit it, arranged for five flutes and piano. The arrangement gives each group of players a different job: the upper flutes sing the melody, the lower flutes build a rich foundation, and beatbox sounds keep a gentle pulse moving underneath.

Part-by-part guide

- Flutes 1 and 2 (melody): long, flowing lines for players who want to work on beautiful tone, breath control, phrasing and blending two voices into one.

- Flutes 3 and 4 (foundation): sustained lower lines that train a full, warm sound, steady breath, tuning against the other parts, and listening to the harmony.

- Flute 5 (groove): beatbox patterns (marked B, t, K and T) alongside supporting notes. Trains a steady pulse, clear articulation and the confidence to be the heartbeat of the group.

What players gain

1. Tone and line: Flutes 1 and 2 learn to shape melody with warmth and care.

2. A deeper, fuller sound: Flutes 3, 4 and 5 practice playing with weight and steadiness in the low register.

3. Rhythm through beatbox: the beatbox patterns make the pulse something players can feel, not only count.

4. Ensemble joy and harmony: five voices and the piano blend into one sound, and everyone learns to listen for how their line supports the others.

A piece about caring for the world

Heal the World works well as more than a performance piece. Teachers and parents can use it to talk with children about looking after people, animals and the places we share. Adults who play along set the example: when children see the grown-ups around them practicing, listening and caring, they learn that protecting the world is something we do together. It is a natural choice for school concerts, community events and family gatherings.

Rehearsal tips

1. Start with Flutes 1 and 2 and the piano, and sing or hum the melody together.

2. Add Flutes 3 and 4 and listen for how the harmony changes the sound.

3. Say the beatbox marks aloud, then add them on the flute.

4. Put everything together, and swap parts in later rehearsals.
