Arirang Rhapsody, composed by Lee Jisoo, is a work inspired by Arirang, Korea’s most beloved traditional folk song. By blending the familiar melody with modern musical language, the piece expands the emotional depth of the original while preserving its spirit of longing, resilience, and hope. The music unfolds like a narrative, allowing the timeless theme of Arirang to evolve through changing harmonies and textures.
In this clarinet sextet arrangement, the expressive range and warmth of the clarinet family bring new richness to the piece. Spanning a wide register, the six clarinets blend together with a vocal-like quality, creating the sense of a single, shared musical breath.
The upper voices present the Arirang melody with clarity and lyricism, allowing it to sing naturally above the ensemble. The middle parts provide gentle harmonic movement and rhythmic support, while the lower voices anchor the texture with depth and stability.
