F. Liszt - Transcendental Etude S. 139 No. 3 in F Major "Paysage"

🎼 About the Piece

A gently swaying melody opens a pastoral landscape, where warm chordal colours and flowing accompaniment create an atmosphere of spacious calm and unhurried lyrical expression.

The music gradually broadens in feeling and resonance before settling again, allowing a quiet scenic character to develop a substantial emotional arc within the study’s compact form.

✨ Sheet Music Highlights

The score develops sustained cantabile and careful balance within chordal textures, with the melodic line kept connected while accompanying notes support a soft and even movement.

Subtle dynamic shading and attentive pedal changes help the harmonies retain their warmth, while flexible phrasing preserves continuity through the more expansive expressive passages.

🎹 Performance & Recommendation Points

This etude suits pianists exploring a lyrical side of Liszt’s writing, offering a rewarding study in tonal depth and the shaping of broad phrases without relying on continuous outward brilliance.

Sing the main melody before playing the complete texture and plan its principal rise and release, allowing the accompaniment to remain gentle enough for the music’s quiet details to speak.

Have a happy performance!
