This is an arrangement of Hymn 367, "Are You Washed in the Blood?" Honestly, I put a lot of thought into this piece before making the final arrangement.
If you look at the original score, there are no dotted or swung rhythms, meaning a shuffle rhythm isn't technically the most natural fit. However, in reality, almost 90% of the churches I've been to tend to sing this hymn with a bright, upbeat swing or shuffle feel.
Musically speaking, it fits wonderfully as a straight 8-bit or a modern 16-bit funk groove. But the practical reality for smaller churches is that playing a complex funk rhythm with just a single piano—without a drummer or a bassist—is incredibly difficult.
So I found myself at a crossroads: Should I stick to a strict 8-beat as written? Should I squeeze in a 16-beat funk groove that really requires a band? Or should I go with the shuffle rhythm that congregations already love and feel comfortable with?
Since the ultimate goal of my arrangements is to support congregational singing, I decided to go with the shuffle rhythm. To give you the greatest flexibility depending on your congregation's vocal range, I have prepared it in five different keys (Ab, G, F, C, and E major). I truly hope this serves your ministry well. ^^
