There has been a long-standing debate over the authorship of this piece—whether it was composed by J.S. Bach or C.P.E. Bach. Recent research strongly suggests it is the work of C.P.E. Bach (H. 545). Out of respect for both possibilities, the composer section of this sheet music includes the names and catalog numbers of both composers.

The tempo marking Andante is moderately slow. While the score indicates "♩= 50," early-intermediate players are encouraged to aim for a slower tempo of ♩= 36 when practicing.
