After Professor Heo Rim shared our team’s version of “Here I Am Again,” many people showed interest and asked for the score, so I created this piano accompaniment score.
One lesson from Professor Heo Rim that I still use is to bring a song’s DNA into the intro. I used the opening melody of “Here I Am Again” and built new chord voicings around it. Creating a new intro was daunting because the famous guitar intro is so good, but I wanted a restrained change that clearly sounded like our team’s version, and fortunately it seems there were no boos.
A free lead sheet is available on the Diakonia blog, and the piano accompaniment score can be purchased below. Although it is not marked in the score, this uses a bounce rhythm, so pay attention to the sixteenth notes and listen closely to the recording to follow its nuance.
Because this accompaniment is for a band, the left hand does not always play the bass. The compact keyboard voicings designed for the band may feel unfamiliar, but practicing them will be useful. Keep working even if they are difficult and try applying them to other songs.
