Mac DeMar has a lot of formal and harmonic sophistication in his songs.
“Heart To Heart” has no chorus, only refrain which is colored blue for your convenience.
I doubled note values to make sightreading easier for beginners. The track isn't recorded in the 2/2 time. Be sure to play "Heart To Heart" slowly and flowing, taking care to maintain a steady pulse as you subtly change dynamics.
If some notes prove too difficult to play, simply omit them.
"Heart To Heart" is transcribed in the original key, G Sharp Minor, and uses a mix of extended major and minor chords. Extended chords help create richer sounds than those available from basic major and minor chords. A chord change creates a meaningful harmonic pull.
Notice that the tonic, G# chord, isn't used in the chord progression. It is used in the bass line (small grey notes in the left hand) as a drone tone. Beginners can omit playing the rhythmic bass line.
"Heart To Heart" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody. Piano is an instrument that can play a melody and an accompaniment simultaneously.
Vocal in the original track is sinuous and complex, marked by subtle bends and slides, with intense ornamentation. It is impossible to convey on piano with a fixed pitch of the keys. A predominant vocal style is legato.
