“Kali Uchis” Sheet Music

"Moonlight" is played with a soft-swinged feel (notated in common time 4/4). This rhythm is associated with the natural flow of a spoken speech and common in blues/jazz music.

But be sure not to play in a mechanical way. Strive for a loose and bouncing feel accenting strong beats. Take care to maintain a steady pulse and play along with the recording if you find that the memory eludes you. Practice "Moonlight" slowly.

To keep listeners attention, the chorus was made to be the biggest part of a song. It colored it blue for your convenience: it is easier to learn a piece of music when you have a mental scheme of it. The first and second verses/choruses are different, play them differently, as expressively as possible. If some notes prove too difficult to play, simply omit them focusing on emotions instead of sightreading.

"Moonlight" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody.

Vocal in the original track is sinuous and complex, marked by subtle bends and slides, with intense ornamentation. It is impossible to convey on piano with a fixed pitch of the keys. A predominant vocal style is legato, all slurred notes are vocal bends and to should be barely heard.

"Moonlight" is transcribed in the original key, G Minor, and uses a mix of major and minor chords. The progression is built from a handful of basic and extended chords. Extended chords help create richer sounds than those available from basic major and minor chords. A chord change marks time and musical structure rather than creates a meaningful harmonic pull.

Notice the ellipsis (silenced, omitted chords) in the beginning of the second chorus.

The aesthetic value is achieved through the use of non-harmonic tones and chords (D Major chords with its F-Sharp) interacting with stable chord tones. The chords move in a walk -pattern with C as a passing tone from B-flat to D.
