Description
The title “KYO-EN” means an improvisational and spectacular musical session with marimba and Japanese drum. Originally intended for marimba and O-daiko, the part of the piece played solely by marimba was reworked as a solo marimba piece. In composing this piece, I was particularly inspired by the Bandokoro Great Falls, a 40-meter drop located on Mt. Norikura in Nagano, Japan. I expressed the dynamic and overwhelming splash of the waterfall and the cherry blossom petals that fall there. Marimba: 5 octaves (C-C)
