엄마 엄마 잠이 안 와

가족이 잠을 자기 위해 누웠습니다. 하지만 아이 중 한 명이 잠이 안 옵니다. 엄마도 자기처럼 잠을 자지 않으면 좋겠다고 생각합니다.

엄마가 잠을 자는지 안 자는지 계속 확인하며 노래를 흥얼거리거나 손을 잡아달라고 합니다. 엄마는 다른 사람들도 자야 하니 얼른 자라고 합니다.

아이는 계속 잠이 안 온다고 투정대며 가족도 다 잠을 못 자게 해 놓고는 마지막으로 할 말이 있다고 합니다. 내일 일찍 깨워 달라는 말입니다.

잠투정하느라 밤 늦게까지 가족을 잠을 못 자게 해 놓고 내일 일찍 깨워달라니!

어이가 없습니다.

The family lay down to sleep. But one of the children couldn’t fall asleep. The child wished that mommy wouldn’t sleep either.

The child kept checking whether mommy was asleep, humming songs, or asking her to hold a hand. Mommy told the child to sleep quickly as everyone else needed to sleep.

Still, the child kept whining, keeping the whole family awake. And then, as if that weren’t enough, a child had one last ask: “Wake me up early tomorrow.”
