"Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed," written by Isaac Watts in 1707, is one of the deepest hymns singing of human repentance and the Lord's atoning love as we look upon the Cross. This hymn vividly shows that the suffering Jesus Christ endured was because of my sins, while simultaneously testifying that His sacrifice was an inevitable love to save me. In 2026, for those of us living today, this praise is not merely a song remembering history. It is a powerful awakening of faith that makes us feel the true meaning of the Cross and the weight of His grace deep in our souls, which we might have forgotten amidst the temptations of the flashy world. Every verse testifies to how vast and profound God's love is, as He never gives up on us despite the terrible pain He endured. As you play this noble hymn, meditate deeply on the path of Golgotha He walked alone. May this hymn be a precious tool that reveals the Lord's cross-centered love in your worship.
