"By Gracious Powers" began with a poem written by theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer in his final letter to his family during Christmas 1944 while imprisoned by the Nazis. Even in the shadow of death, he confessed in faith that God's good powers and protection were with him. In 1976, German composer Siegfried Fietz set this poem to music, and it became a beloved praise worldwide. Singing of God's unchanging guidance even in desperate situations, this song brings heavenly comfort to many today. In 2026, it remains a powerful message reminding us that our lives are in the Lord's hands, and He is with us yesterday, today, and tomorrow. This special performance 3-stave score in E is arranged with deep devotion to melt that holy assurance into piano melodies.
