This is an arrangement of the majestic and traditional hymn, "O King of Kings, Before Whose Throne" (Tune: REX REGUM). While the traditional key signature is G major, I have also carefully prepared comprehensive transpositions in a higher A major and a lower F major to ensure the most flexible key registration for your corporate service.
The accompanying demonstration video is performed in G major. For the first half, I followed the provided reharmonized score precisely, while for the latter half, I moved beyond the written framework to introduce a free, expressive accompaniment style to offer harmonic inspiration.
Personally, I have frequently utilized this piece as an opening introit or a call to worship to usher in the Lord's presence at the start of traditional Sunday services. To breathe new life into the opening segment of worship, I have infused a refined and contemporary ballad texture into the traditional framework.
Reflecting on worship music, I often think that categorizing these sacred hymns strictly as "processionals" or "introits" might inadvertently limit the boundless scope of their original purpose. When you read through all four verses of Hymn 20, the text is purely saturated with a profound declaration of praise and glory to the Triune God, which brings immense spiritual renewal every time it is sung. It is my sincere prayer that this beautiful piece breaks free from being just a brief opening routine and becomes widely covered, reimagined, and enthusiastically sung across countless ministries.
