Tate McRae shortened the song, changed ornamentation and the melody and lowered the key for one step from E Major to D Major.

“The One That Got Away” is composed with a straight rhythm in common time. Accent strong beats.

Avoid learning both hands together in the very beginning; you will fail immediately and abandon the score.

The left-hand provides an accompaniment. Play any pattern here (chords, arpeggios, tremolo, ostinato).

The right hand imitates vocal delivery by Tate McRae: a predominant articulation is staccato.

Play pianissimo but expressive.
