Waltz Op. 42 in Ab Major-F. Chopin

F. Chopin - Waltz Op. 42 in Ab Major

🎼 About the Piece

A shimmering opening releases an exuberant dance, where a broadly shaped melody seems to move across the accompaniment’s triple pulse with sparkling rhythmic freedom.

Brilliant passagework and lyrical contrasts give the waltz an expansive character, combining the elegance of the dance with a sustained sense of momentum and increasing excitement.

✨ Sheet Music Highlights

The rhythmic relationship between melody and accompaniment develops independent coordination, with the performer maintaining a clear dance foundation beneath the melody’s contrasting grouping.

Quick figurations and changing registers require efficient movement and tonal clarity, while carefully judged pedalling prevents the growing resonance from obscuring the musical layers.

🎹 Performance & Recommendation Points

This work suits advanced pianists seeking a substantial concert waltz that brings together virtuoso fluency, lyrical projection, and a sophisticated sense of rhythmic interplay.

Practise the rhythmic layers separately and then together at a measured pace, reserving enough dynamic range for the later growth so that brilliance retains a convincing musical direction.

Have a happy performance!
