Back to the piano after a few months of other more important things! My fingers seemed to have shrunk in the meantime (either that, or my brain has) because I had such trouble practicing this one!
This song came back into my radar because I happened to be watching a crowd punk video of Baek Z Young live singing to her own music tracks in a restaurant… without anyone knowing or realising that she was in the house. Some songs are memorable such that when you hear them again you know you've heard it before somewhere. So for me it was one of those moments where multiple thoughts, "Oh I've heard this song before, where?", "Oh she's the singer!", "WHAT SONG IS THIS?!?" come together.
This song originated from a 20-episode long but highly-engaging K-drama "IRIS" (which unfortunately had a very abrupt ending which I didn’t care for). Unbeknownst to me, it had remained in my impressionable subconscious for several more years until the aforementioned video I chanced across.
Without the accompaniment, chords, descending bass lines, and multiple key changes (including my not-so-favourite F# Major with the annoying E# posing as an F note), this song would have come across as ‘un-interesting’… as ‘un-interesting’ as Jobim’s “One Note Samba” and Beethoven’s “Allegretto from Symphony No. 7 in A Major”. This year, I finally got around to working the piano arrangement (I almost quit right before the final segment which was… yet another key change extending the song further lol), hope you enjoy!
P.S. If you like Baek Z Young’s songs, I had also covered two others song by her before this: “The Woman” (Secret Garden) and “If I” (The King’s Affection).
