The Story & Description

Originally a lush operatic duet, this public domain gem has been breathes new life into a breathtaking chamber piece specifically tailored for two flutes and piano.

The hauntingly beautiful vocal lines of Giulietta and Nicklausse are seamlessly transformed into a fluid dialogue between the two flutes. Listeners will be captivated as the first and second flutes trade the iconic, soaring main theme, weaving intricate counter-melodies that perfectly showcase the bright, expressive, and silvery timbre of the instrument.

Meanwhile, the piano takes on the role of the orchestra, beautifully sustaining the famous, undulating $6/8$ rhythm that mimics the gentle swaying of a Venetian gondola.
