The prayer (Flute 1, Clarinet 3 Quartet / 플루트, 클라리넷 4중주)-David Foster, Tony Renis

〈The Prayer〉 – David Foster

“The Prayer” – David Foster

Flute and Clarinet Ensemble Arrangement (Flute 1, Clarinets 3)

The Prayer, composed by David Foster, is a modern classic that expresses hope and heartfelt longing through a timeless, lyrical melody. Transcending language and genre, the piece has offered comfort and peace to listeners around the world.

This arrangement for one flute and three clarinets presents the work in a more layered and expressive soundscape, shaped by the contrast and blend of distinct timbres. The flute carries the main melody with a clear, luminous tone, suggesting a prayer rising upward—light, pure, and open.

Supporting the flute, the three clarinets provide warmth and depth with their voice-like resonance.

The inner parts sustain gentle harmonies and long, breathing lines, while the lower clarinet anchors the ensemble with calm stability. Together, the instruments create a balanced dialogue between light and warmth, aspiration and reassurance.

Rather than emphasizing technical display, this arrangement focuses on tonal color, natural phrasing, and expressive space. The flute and clarinets coexist without competing, allowing the music to unfold as a single, shared prayer that gradually fills the room.

Reimagined for flute and clarinet ensemble, The Prayer becomes a quiet expression of faith on stage and, for the audience, a moment to listen inward and reconnect with their own unspoken hopes.
