Like other Gracie Abrams' songs, the track is plain and simple:

"I Know It Won't Work" is played with a straight rhythm in 4/4 time (a time signature containing 4 quarter notes per bar. It is easy to count for beginners). This rhythm is widely used in pop and rock music.

But be sure not to play in a mechanical way. Strive for a loose and bouncing feel accenting strong beats. Take care to maintain a steady pulse and play along with the recording if you find that the memory eludes you. Practice "I Know It Won't Work" slowly.

The form is AABABB linked by 4-bar breaks. To keep listeners attention, the chorus was made to be the biggest part of a song. It colored it *blue* for your convenience: it is easier to learn a piece of music when you have a mental scheme of it. The first and second verses/choruses are different, play them differently, as expressively as possible. If some notes prove too difficult to play, simply omit them focusing on emotions instead of sightreading.

"I Know It Won't Work" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody. The repetitive bass riff isn't counted as a melody in musical theory. Despite being a sad song, "I Know It Won't Work" is written in the major key, E Flat Major. A chord change marks time and musical structure rather than creates a meaningful harmonic pull.

Vocal in the original track is both marked by subtle bends and slides, with intense ornamentation, and relatively rigid and precisely timed. All slurred notes are vocal bends and to should be barely heard. A predominant vocal style is staccato as it saves oxygen for an unexperienced singer with underdeveloped lungs' strength.

Melodic line is build on repetition of chord-root notes with passing tones as a substitute for a real melody.

The last bar with the tonic chord is added by me. Modern commercial music doesn't resolve on tonic to push a listener to repeat the track on a streaming service.
