🎹 It is a score for solo piano with no significant technical difficulties. Original lyrics and harmony chords are included in the sheet music.
🗝️ The track is transcribed in the original key E Flat Major.
🔠 Chords are A♭ B♭ Dm E♭ and some Cm Gm to add variation in the progression. Dm is
outside the home key, it even sounds bad without the filter that Mitski used on the record.
The progression is looped and cadential and it is its the strongest point: it sounds predictable and comforting, while in dire contrast with an everchanging vocal melody.
🔢 “If I Leave” is composed with a straight rhythm in 6/8 time. I doubled note values so the score is written in 3/4 time.
🤚🏼 The left-hand part almost perfectly reflects the guitar's part.
🖐🏼 The right hand imitates vocal delivery by Mitski : the predominant articulation is tenuto. There are some vocal inflections with different colors. I added the obvious inflections in the score under the slur.
🌉 The song has strange parts division. The phrases length is irregular as well.
🔕The C note in brackets could be omitted.
🏷️ Much of the song’s aesthetic value is generated through guitar chord progression.
