“Void” Sheet Music
⚡"VOID" is played with a straight rhythm that accidentally went swing in the second part of the second verse. I guess she was bored with the melody at this point but it wasn't that necessarily. Practice "VOID" slowly with soft and quiet touch. I know it's a loud song but banging on keys hurts your palm.
To keep listeners attention, the chorus was made to be the biggest part of a song. It colored it blue for your convenience: it is easier to learn a piece of music when you have a mental scheme of it. The first and second verses/choruses are different, play them differently, as expressively as possible. If some notes prove too difficult to play, simply omit them focusing on emotions instead of sightreading.
"VOID" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody. The left hand plays a walking bass that was performed on bass guitar in the track. You can omit playing all eights notes, play only when a note changes.
At the same time, the vocal in the original track is saturated with both bends, glides, and slides (all slurred notes should be barely heard) and is relatively rigid and precisely timed, so it produces a well-patterned yet modest melody for the right hand. Play semi-staccato, perley touch.
"VOID" is transcribed in the original key, E Major, but Melanie Martinez uses also A Major and C-sharp Minor as tonics.
It has only one basic progression throughout the track. A chord change marks time and musical structure rather than creates a meaningful harmonic pull.
The melodic line is built on repetition of a chord-root note. The composition lacks intervallic saturation thus its artistic meaning and expression suffer.
Notice the use of the non-harmonic Natural D in C-Sharp Minor bars. I sense Melanie Martinez didn't use a pitch correction tool.
