“HOPE” Sheet Music

Like other NF's songs, the track has a number of interesting formal and harmonic things going on:

"HOPE" is played with a combination of 4/4 in the intro and swinged rhythm everywhere else (instead of triplets I always notate it as 12/8, a time signature containing 12 eighth notes per bar. It is easier to count for beginners than triplets). This rhythm is associated with the natural flow of a spoken speech and common in rap music.

But be sure not to play in a mechanical way. Strive for a loose and bouncing feel accenting strong beats. Take care to maintain a steady pulse and play along with the recording if you find that the memory eludes you. Practice "HOPE" slowly.

It has no chorus. The first and second verses are different, play them differently, as expressively as possible. If some notes prove too difficult to play, simply omit them focusing on emotions instead of sightreading.

"HOPE" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody.

Vocal in the original track is relatively rigid and precisely timed, so it produces a well-patterned yet modest melody for the right hand. A predominant vocal style is staccato.

"HOPE" is transcribed in the original key, E Flat Minot, and uses only two chords. A chord change marks time and musical structure rather than creates a meaningful harmonic pull. The melody is built around the note B-flat.
