“Ceilings” Sheet Music

"Ceilings" is played with a swinged rhythm instead of triplets notated as 12/8, a time signature containing 12 eighth notes per bar. It is easier to count for beginners than triplets.

This rhythm is associated with the natural flow of a spoken speech and commonly seen in blues, jazz, and other soulful idioms. But be sure not to play in a mechanical way. Strive for a loose and bouncing feel accenting strong beats. Take care to maintain a steady pulse and play along with the recording if you find that the memory eludes you. Be sure to learn "Ceilings" slowly.

The chorus is the biggest part of a song and colored blue for your convenience. I notate first and second verses/choruses differently because in modern pop-music they are arranged differently purely for the aesthetic enjoyment of variation.

"Ceilings" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody. Piano is an instrument that can play a melody and an accompaniment simultaneously.
