“Tough Luck Sheet Music”

The track is written in a theoretical key with 8 sharps, G Sharp major, which is enharmonically equivalent to A Flat major. Notice the amount double flats 𝄫.

I transcribed the score in the key, A Flat major with only five flats, and uses a wide array of alternated chords.

Alterations to the chord change create harmonic ambiguity and secondary colors.

“Tough Luck” is composed with rubato rhythm in common time. Accent strong beats.

The left-hand provides an accompaniment. Play any pattern here (chords, arpeggios, tremolo, ostinato).

The right hand imitates vocal delivery by Laufey: the predominant articulation is tenuto.

In slurred passages, descending inflections are played diminuendo >, but ascending vocal portamento are played crescendo <. I added backing vocals on a separate ossia stave. Don't play it, it's for singing.

The false ending of the bridge releases tension so the repeated chorus doesn't sound dull after an intense bridge. The bridge is visible on the video.

Much of the song’s aesthetic value is generated through experimental novelty.
