《Waltz No.2》for Solo Guitar (for Solo Guitar) Dmitri Shostakovich(1906-1975)

Waltz No. 2 belongs to the Suite for Variety Stage Orchestra, written between 1938 and 1956 (scholars debate the exact dating because of lost manuscripts and later compilations).
The waltz became internationally famous after being featured in Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.
Its graceful yet slightly ironic character shows Shostakovich’s typical blend of nostalgia and subtle satire.
Original instrumentation: large orchestra with woodwinds, brass, strings, saxophones, piano, and percussion.
Today, this waltz is one of Shostakovich’s most widely performed and beloved works.
