Description
F. Schubert - Fantasy Op. 15 D. 760 in C Major "Wanderer"
🎼 About the Piece
A forceful rhythmic idea sets this large fantasy in motion, with four connected sections transforming related material through sharply contrasting tempos, textures, and expressive worlds.
The reflective slow section provides a deeply singing centre, while brilliant passagework and the contrapuntal finale expand the work toward an orchestral scale and a powerful conclusion.
✨ Sheet Music Highlights
The score develops chordal projection, fluent arpeggios and scales, secure leaps, and independent voices, together with the stamina needed to sustain a continuous large-scale performance.
Efficient changes of position and carefully planned releases preserve physical freedom, while tonal balance and pedal distinguish the recurring rhythmic idea from its changing melodic and textural surroundings.
🎹 Performance & Recommendation Points
This fantasy suits highly advanced pianists seeking a substantial Romantic concert work, requiring technical command alongside structural imagination and a convincing relationship between contrasting sections.
Practise the principal rhythmic idea in each transformation and learn the slow melody with its bass, then plan the transitions and dynamic hierarchy so that the final intensity grows from the whole work’s expressive journey.
Have a happy performance!
