"El Surco", composed by Chabuca Granda in 1976, emerged as a critical reflection on the military government of General Juan Velasco Alvarado, who led Peru from 1968 to 1975. According to the composer herself, the inspiration for this piece came after she was invited to the Government Palace to perform "Paso de Vencedores". In just five days, she crafted "El Surco", embedding her perspective on the country's political situation into its lyrics and melody. Despite its critical undertones, the song did not provoke rejection among the authorities; on the contrary, both the president and the Committee of Presidential Advisory Officers received it with emotion. In this version, the piece has been adapted for solo guitar, emphasizing its melodic depth and evocative nature.
