“Back To You” Sheet Music

You can omit playing green notes (the second voice).

Please, notice that in the third verse the upper stave is written one octave higher than it was sung in the original track. Sam Harris has a very low voice.

I also doubled note values to make sightreading easier for beginners. The track isn't recorded in the 2/2 time.

"Back To You" is played with a straight rhythm. It is easy to count for beginners.

This rhythm is the only possible rhythm within the modern electronic dance music genre. But be sure not to play in a mechanical way. Strive for a loose and bouncing feel accenting strong beats. Take care to maintain a steady pulse and play along with the recording if you find that the memory eludes you.

The song has no chorus but the refrain that was colored blue for your convenience. I notate verses/choruses differently because in modern pop-music they are arranged differently purely for the aesthetic enjoyment of variation.

"Back To You" is a song with a homophonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides a harmony to support the vocal but lacks its own melody. Piano is an instrument that can play a melody and an accompaniment simultaneously.

"Back To You" is written in the key of D Minor with one flat, but I notated it without the key signature because B-flat is used only once.

The chord progression is built on two chords — D Minor and its relative major, F. A chord change marks time and musical structure rather than creates a meaningful harmonic pull.

One thing to look out for throughout is the use of dynamics. Play as expressively as possible. If some notes prove too difficult to play, simply omit them focusing on emotions instead of sightreading.

Vocal in the original track is sinuous and complex, marked by subtle bends and slides, with intense ornamentation. It is impossible to convey on piano with a fixed pitch of the keys. A predominant vocal style is legato, all slurred notes are vocal bends.
