“Imaginary Friend”
The track is transcribed in the original key, F Sharp Minor, and uses basic major and minor chords D E F♯m.
The chord change is cyclical. It's too straightforward and has weak cadences. Because its cadences are so weak and provide to harmonic center I even couldn't decide whether it's F Sharp Minor or A Major.
A twelve-note scale and a metered sheet music isn't capable to express the sound of “Imaginary Friend” with its layered inflections of electronic sampled pads. They used pads instead of instruments with a harder attack because there is too much harmonic tension between chords and the melody.
The left-hand texture is thick and makes great use of the bass register. Play any pattern (chords, arpeggios, tremolo, ostinato).
The right hand imitates the vocal delivery by ITZY members: I rarely indicate staccato and tenuto but in this score it was crucial (in the verses). Accurately follow the articulation signs!
“Imaginary Friend” is composed with a straight rhythm in common time. Accent strong beats but do it softly.
The aesthetic value of a track is based on conventional tonal behavior that sounds simple and appealing. The track needs sophistication and development to top charts.
