The song "Autumn Leaves" began as a French song titled "Les Feuilles Mortes" ("The Dead Leaves"),* composed by Joseph Kosma with lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert. It was originally written for the 1946 French film Les Portes de la Nuit. The lyrics describe the nostalgia and sadness of lost love, with falling autumn leaves symbolizing fading memories of a past romance.
