I wrote "千里共婵娟" — the last line from Su Shi's poem, "水调歌头·明月几时有" — as a response to an important moment in my life, and to the message that has stuck with me since that time. The full meaning of this line can loosely be translated to: "Even though we are a thousand miles apart, we share the beauty of the moon." This was a bit long, so I shortened the English title to simply "We Share The Beauty Of The Moon Together."
This piece is an expression of not just this one line, but of the whole poem and its broader brushes to longing, joy and sorrow, the indifference of the universe—represented by the moon's cycles—the complex internal processes that are necessitated by this, and the acceptance of it all. Then finally, an appreciation that through all this, we stay connected under the same moon.
