Two Organ Fanfare for Gloria at Holy Week-Heejin Kim

These are two short organ fanfares. Each can be played in 30 to 45 seconds.

The first piece is an organ fanfare composed for the Gloria of 강수근’s first Korean traditional music Mass. It borrows the melody of the following Gloria for continuity and uses a lively rhythm to convey a Korean traditional music feel. Part of the melody from Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” is also used to evoke the meaning of Easter.

Organ Fanfare for a Korean Traditional Music Mass

The second piece is a fanfare for Holy Thursday, intended to convey sorrow that foreshadows death on the cross. The music rises quickly and urgently, then descends through a solemn chord progression. It ends in a  major key, suggesting the Resurrection.
