In this re-watch of Fushigi Yuugi, I was stuck on the 33rd episode for a long time as I dared not to click it open. Nonetheless, it was necessary for me to cross this hurdle. As this special ending song came on air, Nuriko sat in the drifting snow, eyes closed, lips slightly curled upwards, as pristine as an angel; I could no longer hold my tears. It was then that I decided to create a piano arrangement for his special ending. Compared to Tokimeki no Doukasen, this song took form of a more concise design in order to highlight its “melody”, as featured in the title. The left hand arrangement slightly differs between the two repeated passages of the verse, adding a touch of novelty. Meanwhile, climax at the end was arranged to start low and end high so as to emphasize the contrast between the two repeated passages of the chorus, also corresponding to Nuriko’s final outburst after his fatal injury. Finally, through a rallentando, the coda draws the audience’s view to the silver-clad Black Mountain of Hokkan in the distance. Nuriko is my favourite character in Fushigi Yuugi, hope you enjoy!
