This piano solo suite is inspired by Alexander Desplat’s soundtrack for Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein”, a Netflix-produced film.
The arrangement includes William and Father, Fire and Lecture, combined into a continuous musical arc shaped specifically for piano.
William and Father becomes a dark and slightly unsettling waltz full of chromatic lines and dissonances that evoke a gothic atmosphere. Fire rises from its lyrical theme over an ostinato bass originally carried by the cello and slowly turns into a crescendo that I connected to the most intense moment of Lecture. From there the music gradually releases all the tension following a harmonic descent in G minor.
