Love Theme - Catherine Rollin

Catherine Rollin (1952– ) is an American composer, author, and music educator. Over the course of her career, she has composed more than 400 musical works, which are widely recognized for both their musicality and teachability. She is also an award-winning member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). As a teacher, Catherine is passionate about inspiring students’ creativity and artistic potential through the masterpieces of classical painters, rather than limiting her teaching solely to musical instruction. Driven by this idea, she visited renowned museums around the world and eventually developed a book series such as Museum Masterpieces, which received an award from ASCAP in 2015.

Catherine’s works are both melodious and easy to play, making them especially popular among students and beginners. Love Theme is one of her representative works and was published in Lyric Moments, Book 2 in 1995. The piece is also widely known for being selected as a set work for the ABRSM Piano Grade 5 Examination (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). In 2023, Love Theme was publicly performed at a concert held at Hong Kong City Hall, where the three-year-old musical prodigy Zheng Junqi performed the piece effortlessly with orchestral accompaniment, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.

凯瑟琳的作品即好听又易于弹奏，因此深受学生及初学者们的青睐。这首《Love Theme》是凯瑟琳的代表作之一，收录于1995出版的《Lyric Moments, Book 2》中，该曲也因入选英皇考试（ABRSM，英国皇家音乐学院联合委员会）钢琴5级（Grade 5）的候选曲目而广为人知。2023年在香港大会堂举办的一场音乐会上，《Love Theme》还有过一次公开演出的机会，当时年仅3岁的音乐奇才郑骏祺在管弦乐队的伴奏下轻松弹奏，获得台下观众阵阵掌声。

Love Theme sounds so simple and beautiful that it makes one unable to resist playing it. However, the playing experience itself is not entirely pleasant, as the music expresses not only love, but also the pain endured because of love. This vividly reflects the complex reality in which love and pain are often deeply intertwined, leaving a profound emotional impact. I have made a slight arrangement of Love Theme myself, and I hope you will enjoy my interpretation.

《Love Theme》听起来如此简单，如此动听，让人忍不住想要弹奏，然而弹奏的过程却并非那么心感愉悦，因为它的音乐在表达爱的同时，也在表达因爱而承受的伤害，这恰恰表现了现实当中爱与伤害往往相互交织的复杂过程，让人深感刺痛。本人对这首《Love Theme》稍作改编，希望各位喜欢我所弹奏的版本！
