Beschreibung
Dmitrii Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2 is arranged here for solo instrument and piano duo, preserving the original structure and unmistakable character of the work.
The solo instrument performs the principal melody, originally passed between various orchestral instruments, bringing its bittersweet elegance into a unified, singing line. The piano accompaniment carries the remaining musical material, recreating the harmonic color and rhythmic sway of the orchestral score. Certain parts have been omitted to ensure practical and effective live performance while maintaining the essence of the original atmosphere.
With its graceful lilt, subtle irony, and cinematic sweep, this arrangement offers a captivating recital piece. Expressive phrasing, nuanced dynamic shading, and refined articulation will allow performers to reveal both the charm and the underlying tension woven into the waltz.
Position range: Violin – 6th position, Viola – 3rd position, Cello – 7th position.
