I arranged Ado’s “好きでいて” for fingerstyle guitar.
The song is also used as an insert song for the ABEMA romance reality series “Kyou, Suki ni Narimashita.”
Ado’s voice has such a distinctive character, and this new song is one that I found myself wanting to listen to again and again.
For this arrangement, I chose Open D tuning (D A D F# A D) with Capo 1 because I wanted to make as much use of open strings as possible and create a natural “let ring” feeling, where the melody, bass, and inner voices can overlap and resonate together.
In the original song, the latter chorus modulates up by a semitone. For this arrangement, however, I decided to stay in the same key until the end.
I did not want to use a movable capo during the performance, and I was also not yet confident that I could handle the voicings after the modulation naturally while still preserving the resonance of Open D.
Instead, I gradually added more bass movement, richer chord voicings, fill-ins, and some percussive elements in the second half, so that the arrangement could still build in intensity without changing key.
This time I also included standard notation in addition to TAB.
I wanted the rhythm and note values to be easier to understand, and it also helped me think more carefully about left-hand fingering and how the different voices overlap and connect with each other.
For the instrumental sections and the spaces between vocal phrases, I added some of my own fill-in ideas as well.
Compared with my previous arrangement of “灰色,” I feel that this arrangement represents a small step forward for me, especially in terms of bass lines, inner voices, the use of open strings, and the way different phrases connect.
I am still relatively new to arranging, so I am continuing to experiment with chord choices, voicings, and fill-ins.
If you notice any difficult fingering, more natural chord choices, or have any suggestions for the arrangement, I would be very happy to hear your thoughts in the comments on YouTube.
