Beschreibung
This is an arrangement of the globally cherished Christmas classic hymn, "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear" (Tune: CAROL). Carrying a timeless message of heavenly peace, it stands as one of the most widely sung and deeply loved anthems during the Advent season.
The original traditional key signature is Bb major, but I have also carefully prepared transposed versions in lower keys (A major and G major) to provide a more comfortable and stable vocal range for your entire congregation.
The accompanying demonstration video is performed in the original Bb major. For the 1st verse, I followed the provided reharmonized score precisely, while for the 2nd verse, I transitioned into a fluid, expressive contemporary ballad style with loose improvisation to offer musical inspiration.
Since the primary goal of this score is to fully support unified congregational leading during main Sunday and Christmas Eve services, the right hand strictly tracks and defines the lead melody line. I have purposefully avoided overly complex jazz alterations to preserve the reverent atmosphere of traditional worship.
To assist beginner accompanists, the chord labels written above the staff have been highly simplified to mirror the direct voicings. If you play strictly by reading these letters using generic open voicings, the elegant melodic flow and the delicate inner harmonies built into this piece may shift, resulting in an awkward sound. I strongly recommend performing exactly what is written on the five-line staff note-for-note rather than relying solely on the chord labels.
