This is an arrangement of the traditional Korean hymn, "When the Morning Sun Rises" (Hymn 552). In Korea, this piece is an absolute staple for Watchnight services and New Year's Eve worship. With its beautiful and uplifting lyrics, it also serves as a wonderful personal confession of faith to sing in daily life.
Since the original lyricist and composer are anonymous, it is widely presumed to be a home-grown piece written by early Korean believers.
The original key is G major, but I have also prepared transposed versions in lower keys (F and Eb major) to provide a more comfortable and stable vocal range for your congregation.
The demonstration video is performed in G major. For the 1st verse, I played strictly according to the provided sheet music, while for the 2nd verse, I ad-libbed and expanded the chord voicings freely. Please note that the sheet music for the 2nd verse improvisation is not included in this layout (though I hope to arrange it in the future).
This arrangement is explicitly crafted to support unified congregational singing during main traditional services. It is highly melody-driven to allow the congregation to follow along effortlessly, and I have purposefully avoided overly complex jazz structures that might distract from the text. Additionally, the final "Amen" cadence has been simplified into a straightforward 4/4 time signature to ensure a clean, natural resolution. It is absolutely perfect for solo piano accompaniment during church services or as reflective background music before worship begins.
