Hymn 298, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross."
The original key is F major. The original melody does not go very high, so playing it in the original key should be quite comfortable for congregational singing. However, in case a higher key is needed for a brighter feel, I also created an arrangement in G major. Additionally, I included lower keys (Eb and E major) to provide more options for your worship setting.
This arrangement is specifically designed for congregational worship during main Sunday services. It focuses heavily on the melody, and the left-hand accompaniment is intentionally kept understated rather than overly flashy, so as not to distract from the singing.
When applying reharmonized chords, I placed a strong emphasis on the voicing—the specific arrangement of the notes within the chords. Every single note laid out in this score has a precise purpose; none are unimportant. If the accompanist arbitrarily changes the voicings or alters the notes, the overall harmony might sound awkward. If you encounter a chord that doesn't feel natural while playing, please double-check to ensure you are playing exactly what is written on the sheet music. ^^
I created this arrangement with churches in mind that may not have a full praise band or choir. Even with just a single piano, you can deliver a rich and full musical expression. I sincerely hope this sheet music brings deeper emotion and grace to your worship experience.
