This arrangement is dedicated to my significant other.
Hello everyone, after eight months, I finally broke my limit again. This arrangement symbolizes not only the beginning of my romantic relationship with her but also a milestone in my five-year anime piano journey. After I graduated from university last May and returned to China, I have been visiting Harmonic Studio more frequently and communicating more closely with all the members who share the same interests. As a result, in the past eight months, I have not only learned about the behind-the-scenes stories of various large and small-scale performances, but also learned more genres of music under the guidance of Senpais, and gradually improved my own musical aesthetics.
This arrangement is technically more difficult than Fluorite Eye's Song. To be honest, Tsuki to Hoshizora is the most emotional song I've ever written.
I actually heard this song in 2020, but it didn't really catch my attention at the time. The background of this piece comes from the story of how I pursued the girl I love and eventually started our relationship. I met her last September and fell in love with her at first sight (lol). In early October last year, I suddenly noticed this song in my musical app. Listening to it with a hint of romantic feelings after three years, I found that its atmosphere, its melody, and even its lyrics perfectly mirrored my emotions. So, I decided to arrange this ED as the most special gift to her.
The original song doesn't have a lot of ups and downs. Instead, it is constructed with steady rhythms. For this, I used the story-telling arrangement structure of Kokokara, Kokokara, and Sing My Pleasure again to give it a gentle beginning.
This was the first time I've been out with you. Outside the bar window was the bustling Bund, and in the sky, there was a bright full moon. I was slightly drunk, and my heart stopped. In this chorus, I want to depict our happy conversation with two melodies that echo each other.
By the second verse, the music gets active. At (2:08), I use staccato to depict the joy of meeting you again. At (2:18), I again use the "duet" that appeared in Fluorite Eye's Song to further heat up the atmosphere of the music until the next climax.
A series of Halloween events has brought Disney a good new look. With a slight morning drizzle, wrap your arms around your shoulders and open your umbrella as you experience the variety of rides. The scales of (2:53) and (2:58) represent the excitement when riding a roller coaster. The right-hand octave ornamentation of (3:07) and (3:10) is as brilliant as fireworks blooming high in the night sky.
On October 15, 2023, I participated as a guest performer in my friend James Chou’s anime piano concert, and it was the first time you came to hear me play in a concert hall. I want to use it to express my effort on the stage, and the happiness of seeing you again.
In the bridge section, I filled in a lot of arpeggios while maintaining the original string melody. The downward arpeggios of (3:37 - 3:40) depict the stunning rivers of Wuzhen. The arpeggios of (3:45 - 3:55) rise to the high register, outlining the falling red leaves of Tianping Mountain in Suzhou. It is the most pleasant thing ever to embrace this romantic season with you.
After leaving Suzhou, I returned home and embarked on the preparation of my 5th Anime Piano Concert, but even though I was in a different place from you, we were able to enjoy a quiet reading time together, with the same song playing in our headphones. So, in this part, I give the audience some aural rest for the final climax as usual.
It was finally the day of my concert, and I was deeply moved that you traveled all the way from Shanghai to Guangzhou just for this. This last section is all I want to say to you from the bottom of my heart, all the emotions pour out in this section. Surpassing the finale of Fluorite Eye's Song, Tsuki to Hoshizora has become the hardest arrangement I've ever written at this point. Finally, unlike all my previous works, I gave it an open-ended ending in the hopes that we'll keep going.
See you next time!
Alexis Lin.
